"Women, Peace, Security". Under such slogan, the All-Ukrainian training workshop on the implementation and support of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the relevant National Action Plan "Women – Peace and Security" took place.
The first two-day workshop for journalists was held on December 7-8, 2017 in Kyiv in Ukrteleradiopressinstitut (Ukrainian Television-Radio-Press Institute) at the address: Kyiv, Bogdan Khmelnitsky street, 46. It has involved the representatives of state authorities responsible for implementing gender policy in the country, famous domestic and foreign experts, public figures and activists.
The purpose of the seminar was to provide the knowledge of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325) and subsequent resolutions on women, peace and security, which are part of the obligations of the UN member states and represent an instrument to achieve substantial equality between men and women in countries that have been affected by the conflict, as well as before, during and after the conflict – so that the experience of diverse women is fully considered in all processes of peace-building and recovery. As we know, Ukraine has adopted the National Action Plan "Women – Peace and Security", which is the basis for resolving security issues in the country.
Until recently, the women's experience of conflict participation and their specific needs remains not considered, although an increasing number of countries have already changed their views on the ability of women to participate effectively in peace and reconciliation efforts. But only when we fully understand the real value of gender mainstreaming in the peace processes, and act accordingly, we will observe the impact of the national plans of actions and other strategies, proposed in UNSCR 1325.
The event was organized in cooperation with State Committee for Television and Radio of Ukraine, Ukrteleradiopressinstitut, “Center for Democratic Initiatives”, Global Network of Women-Peacekeepers.
